Te Tiaki Mahinga Kai brings together researchers, Maori community leaders, and fishers in important ways to learn from one another and improve relationships, environmental health, and benefits to people. The project continues to be successful raising money to support research and management activities undertaken by Otago University staff and students. Finding resources to support kaitiaki, and communities is more difficult; The Flaxroots Foundation is another important collaboration - backed by the fundraising power and financial management of the University of Otago to raise money to support kaitiaki.
