The first scientific pāua translocation has been completed within the East Otago Taiāpure, where a source stock of pāua have been translocated to 10 intertidal and 10 subtidal areas that have been subject to high fishing pressure.

Louise Bennett-Jones, with guidance from Dr Gaya Gnanalingam and Assc. Prof Chris Hepburn, is investigating tools and techniques for pāua restoration as part of her Masters thesis in Marine Science.
