Kai Kōrero

The project team will produce at least two copies of our Kai Kōrero magazine each year (more frequently if we can secure more funding).  If you register to receive a copy we will mail it out to you free of charge. Past copies can be downloaded directly, but while stocks last we will send out back copies when new people register to receive the magazine.  C'mon, register other members of your whānau or rūnanga, hapū, NGO, work place etc. if you think they will be interested.

The first issue has been printed and was distributed on the 20th of December 2007.

Your Contributions Needed!

Kai Kōrero is intended mainly to give the people a voice - pāua to the people, huh!  So we welcome your thoughts, reminiscences, comments, as well as criticisms of the project and recommendations for where it should go. What does mahinga kai mean in your life?  What do you think about current management of coastal areas? Of lakes?  Of rivers? Mostly we want to hear about you and your people - so how about interviewing your kaumātua or kuia about how things used to be done and the changes they have seen and send it to us for publication.

We promise that there will be no censorship - though we may have to edit lightly to fit everything in.  We will always cross-check the final text with you before publishing.  We would love to receive photographs from the past, or significant events for your mahinga kai management, copies of old newspaper articles, pictures of tools or art that feature mahinga kai, recipes  ... anything that tells your story about mahinga kai! Send your material to Kai Kōrero, Kā Rakahau o te Ao Tūroa (CSAFE), University of Otago, PO Box 56, Dunedin - or courier it to our office  at 21 Montgomery Ave., Dunedin. We promise we will scan the images and return the material immediately to you by registered post or 'tracked' Courier - make sure you include a covering letter and your return address.

If you just want to submit text and have access to a computer, the easiest would be for you to send an Email tomahingakai@otago.ac.nz

We are looking for material for our second issue now (copy deadline 15 February 2008), so bring it on!
